At first, he gives himself over to his fate. Poe is a wonder and an amazement to me. His calling his brother to jump with him into the water after his brother’s ignoring the old man’s safety ppoe coming from the barrel to take grasp of the ring attempting to force the old man’s hands shows his affection and mercy towards his brother. He calls himself weak and scared but he is lying down next to the top of a lofty crag which is definitely an action that requires courage and strength which can be a proof of his humbleness. Anna Hardy rated it really liked it.

Also, the jn resembles The Rime of the Ancient Mariner since both of the stories are told by an old man waiting to tell his story of survival to others.

I think this is a story I will be returning to again. A Descent into the Maelstrom is a character’s account of how he escaped death and how filled with terror and horror he was during that experience. Accepting his fate as inevitable, he then reasons that if all of his life is sure to crumble before his very eyes, he can at least look forward to discovering the “undiscovered country ” to be the first edgqr who’d irrupt its bourn. Observing how objects around him were attracted and pulled into edggar, he deduced that “the larger the bodies, the more peo their descent” and that spherical-shaped objects were pulled in the fastest.
